New Approaches to 2-Alkylideneoxetanes

Another interest lies in developing straightforward strategies for the synthesis of 2-alkylidineoxetanes. One strategy involves preparation of 2-alkylideneoxetanes by the elimination of activated alpha–hydroxyoxetanes (e.g. the conversion of 30 to 31). This approach has been successful, and current efforts are directed to improving the efficiency and to examining stereochemical issues.

We are also exploring the use of transition metal-catalyzed alkene isomerization (double bond migration).
